F280-12 in Practice: Right-sizing heat pumps

Builders, designers, HVAC technicians, energy advisors, building officials:

This full day session includes a review of the practical application of heat pump load calculations using F280-12 software and a site visit to discuss the pre-changeout processes and data collection for reviewing existing HVAC equipment performance.

The practical application of F280 software in the classroom will include:

  • Background on F280-12 and importance of right-sizing HVAC equipment.
  • Software options for HVAC contractors completing F280-12 load calculations.
  • Practical application of F280-12 on existing home and new home projects.

The site visit will review a local existing home project, and will include:

  • Visual evaluation of home to gather performance attributes of building envelope and HVAC equipment.
  • Blower door testing to determine air leakage.
  • Pre-changeout performance testing of gas furnace including static pressure testing and CFM measurement using True Flow Grid.

This training is geared towards those with an understanding of heat loss / heat gain calculations looking to gain hands-on experience using F280-12 software to right-size equipment and to understand best practices when it comes to ducted heat pump installs.

Thanks to support from Columbia Basin Trust and BC Hydro, this session valued at $250 is subsidized for participants from the Kootenay, Boundary and Columbia Basin regions.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Breakfast will be served at 8:00am.
