DESCRIPTION:Join us for an essential four-day training designed for housing maintenance professionals\, tradespeople\, and contractors in Terrace and surrounding regions. \nThis practical\, in-person program will help you master the skills and knowledge needed to perform energy-efficient housing retrofits that meet local needs and challenges. \n\nSpace is limited\n28 CPDs pre-approved by BC Housing *attendance for all four days\nCatered breakfasts and lunches\n\nWhy Attend?\n\nExpert-Led: train with industry professionals.\nHands-On Experience: practice with real materials and mock-ups.\nAccess to Resources: access job aids and videos on envelope upgrades.\nAffordable: deeply subsidized course fees to improve accessibility to more learners.\nTraining Credits: option for BCIT course and CPD credit.\nCareer Connections: connect with Nisga’a Nation’s large-scale home energy retrofit program and learn ways to get involved\n\nWhat You Will Learn\n\nBuilding science principles for energy-efficient retrofits.\nPractical skills in airtightness\, window upgrades\, and insulating below-grade and attic spaces.\nAddress occupant comfort\, efficiency\, and building durability.\n\nTraining Overview\n\nDay 1: Fundamentals of Building Science\nDays 2–4: Building Envelope Upgrades (with hands-on activities and demonstrations)\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructors:\nCody Brentzen\, Principal\, Envelope 1st Consulting & Contracting\n(Photo below) \nCody is Hwlisum and a Haida/Tlingit First Nation member with over over 20 years of experience as a residential Red Seal carpenter. He shares his enthusiasm with students at the Zero Energy Buildings Learning Center at BCIT where he instructs hands on application of the Envelope 1st approach to returning professionals and apprentices. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShawn Wiebe\, Co-Owner Holistic Building Performance\n(Photo below) \nInterprovincial Red Seal carpenter\, Energy Advisor\, High Performance Building Consultant \nShawn got his start in the trades at an early age from a father who was a Red Seal electrician\, licenced gas fitter and owner operator of a backhoe. After completing his Red Seal apprenticeship\, Shawn started his own construction company and general contacted residential\, commercial and agricultural projects. \nAfter 20 years as a general contractor\, Shawn went on to lead work in Indigenous housing & infrastructure at both the community and Tribal Council level for more than 10 years. Now a Registered Energy Advisor and Certified Passive House Consultant\, Shawn also holds micro-credentials from BCIT in Zero Energy Buildings and Regenerative Buildings and is CSA F280-12 Certified. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration:\nCost is $99 for four days\, including breakfasts and lunches.* \n*Indigenous learners may be eligible for additional supports.
