SUMMARY:TECA's Quality First Principles of Moving Air in Kamloops
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nPOMA was developed to provide an in-depth explanation of how air moves through a duct system. This course will be a benefit to everyone working in the New\, Retrofit or Repair portions of the industry. It was developed to give those who are designing or installing duct systems the ability to create quiet\, efficient systems which deliver the required volumes while using the least fan energy. Today\, furnaces\, heat pumps and ventilation systems require larger volumes of air to be moved. Duct fitting shape\, the number of fittings\, air filters\, coils all contribute to reduced flow in ductwork. \nAir filters and their installation are covered thoroughly. The course teaches how to measure current duct system volume and how to calculate the future air flow capacity of the system. A must for retrofit applications. Students learn the relationships of pressure\, pressure drop\, volume\, velocity and power and then will be shown these concepts in practice via demonstrations with our scale model. Ducted or ductless\, multiple or single zone\, heating capacity and cooling capacity\, limited warranties… it all adds up to a big headache. \nBut now you can make the decision-making process easier with the new Local Energy Efficiency Partnership (LEEP) Air-Source Heat Pump Sizing and Selection App. This free\, online tool from Natural Resources Canada is a user-friendly way for HVAC designers and contractors to quickly specify a heat pump project. As an active member of the industry he has served as an executive member of the HVCI and TECA industry associations\, advocating for higher standards and better education for its members.

In 2003 he joined RDH Building Science and since has been specializing in condition assessments\, project design\, detail development\, and field review on Existing Buildings projects. \nAs an approved roof inspector with the Roofing Contractors Association of British Columbia\, James has developed expertise in the investigation\, design\, and field review of complex and specialty roof renewal and replacement projects. He is also a Certified Passive House Tradesperson. \nJames has extensive experience mentoring and training members of the building industry. He currently shares his knowledge of the building enclosure as a hands-on instructor at the British Columbia Institute of Technology for both Passive House and building science related courses. As part of an initiative to support the implementation of a province-wide energy step code policy\, James also provides hands-on airtightness training to builders and contractors. He has worked with reputable manufacturers to film installation demonstration videos of their products such as membranes\, barriers\, and cladding attachments. \nGeoff Kirkpatrick\, Instructor / Registered Energy Advisor\, BCIT Zero Energy/Emissions Buildings Learning Centre \nGeoff Kirkpatrick is passionate about providing solutions for high-performance envelopes.
