SUMMARY:What’s Coming in Heat Pump Technology?
DESCRIPTION:Heat pumps are making headway in the market even as manufacturers continue to innovate for cold climates like Canada’s. Find out what’s coming down the line\, so you can give the best recommendations as an HVAC technician\, retrofit contractor\, or builder. \nThe magic of heat pumps depends on refrigerants to move heat from outdoors to inside—even in some of the coldest weather we face as Canadians. But refrigerants can be risky in the unfortunate situation of a leak. That’s why a new class of refrigerants is hitting the market\, designed to be less harmful to the environment in the event of a leak. \nAnd more technological innovation is coming to cold-climate heat pumps too. Refrigerants and compressors even better optimized for cold weather can help heat pumps continue to perform well to lower temperatures. Join Community Energy Association and Ecolighten to learn all about the new technologies and other changes coming to the heat pump market. \nRegister on Eventbrite \n  \nNotes\nEvent is free of charge\, but you must pre-register for the webinar you’d like to attend. \nIf you can’t attend the webinar – no problem! We’ll provide the slide deck and a link to the recording to all those who have registered. \nThis event has been pre-approved for 1 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Point through BC Housing. \n  \nAbout the Presenter\nRob Pope\, Senior Consultant\, Ecolighten Energy Solutions \nRob started working in the HVAC industry in the mid 1970s where he began his apprenticeship in high-end custom homes\, quickly earning tickets in sheet metal\, refrigeration and gas fitting. During this time\, he installed\, serviced and began designing the first wave of energy-efficient systems such as condensing gas furnaces and boilers\, heat recovery ventilation\, heat pumps and solar thermal. Rob was the Mechanical Consultant on the first residence in Canada to achieve a Canadian LEED® certification. As an active member of the industry he has served as an executive member of the HVCI and TECA industry associations\, advocating for higher standards and better education for its members.

SUMMARY:Keeping Our Cool: How Builders can Protect Homes from Overheating
DESCRIPTION:Summer 2021 was deadly for British Columbians\, with over 600 people losing their lives in just one week of extreme heat. The rapidly heating climate is expected to bring more dangerous summers to come\, so the 2024 release of the BC Building Code has introduced new requirements to prevent overheating in residential spaces. \nJoin Community Energy Association\, HVAC Designers of Canada and Ecolighten Energy Solutions for an in-depth look at how to navigate compliance and verification of these new requirements\, designed to minimize health and safety risks from overheating in dwelling units. \nThis session will cover the Guideline for Single Zone Cooling in Dwelling Units\, which offers the technical direction needed to achieve compliance using CSA F280-12 standard – helping you avoid issues caused by improper cooling load calculations. \n  \nAbout the Presenter\nDara Bowser\, HVAC Designers of Canada

SUMMARY:TECA's Quality First Principles of Moving Air in Kamloops
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nPOMA was developed to provide an in-depth explanation of how air moves through a duct system. This course will be a benefit to everyone working in the New\, Retrofit or Repair portions of the industry. It was developed to give those who are designing or installing duct systems the ability to create quiet\, efficient systems which deliver the required volumes while using the least fan energy. Today\, furnaces\, heat pumps and ventilation systems require larger volumes of air to be moved. Duct fitting shape\, the number of fittings\, air filters\, coils all contribute to reduced flow in ductwork. \nAir filters and their installation are covered thoroughly. The course teaches how to measure current duct system volume and how to calculate the future air flow capacity of the system. A must for retrofit applications. Students learn the relationships of pressure\, pressure drop\, volume\, velocity and power and then will be shown these concepts in practice via demonstrations with our scale model. The knowledge gained of how to incorporate these components and concepts efficiently into a duct system is invaluable. \nCertificates\nThis course has been pre-approved for 16 Continuing Professional Development Points through BC Housing. \nAre you interested in offering Provincial rebates to your clients? TECA’s POMA course is a required qualification to becoming a registered HVAC contractor in the Home Performance Contractors Network. \nSuccessful participants of this course will receive a wallet card and certificate along with a whole new perspective on duct design and further be one step closer to qualifying for ‘the soon to be adopted’ TECA Forced Air Designer Certificate. \nRegistration\n\nTECA members: $559\nTECA non-members: $659\n\nIncludes cost of food and refreshments. \nRegister on Eventbrite

SUMMARY:Simplify Heat Pump Selection: there’s an app for that
DESCRIPTION:It’s not easy sizing and selecting the right heat pump for a given home. Ducted or ductless\, multiple or single zone\, heating capacity and cooling capacity\, limited warranties… it all adds up to a big headache. \nBut now you can make the decision-making process easier with the new Local Energy Efficiency Partnership (LEEP) Air-Source Heat Pump Sizing and Selection App. This free\, online tool from Natural Resources Canada is a user-friendly way for HVAC designers and contractors to quickly specify a heat pump project. It even lets contractors\, builders\, electricians\, homeowners and others collaborate and comment on proposed solutions within the app. \nJoin Community Energy Association and Ecolighten for a guided tour of the app and demonstrations of how it can help your work go faster and more smoothly. So\, you can spend less time in spec sheets and more time installing efficient systems. \nRegister on Eventbrite \n  \n  \nNotes\nEvent is free of charge\, but you must pre-register for the webinar you’d like to attend. \nIf you can’t attend the webinar – no problem! We’ll provide the slide deck and a link to the recording to all those who have registered. \nContinuing Professional Development (CPD) Points through BC Housing are pending.
