Vancouver: Community Energy Association (CEA) is partnering with the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in 2016 to deliver the six online courses that qualify students to write CEA’s Community Energy Management certification exam.
This initiative helps support the BCIT mission of preparing students to be job-ready and empowering them to face tomorrow’s challenges. It also helps CEA further its mission to expand the capacity of Canadian communities to prepare and implement community energy and emissions plans.
City-builders across Canada are now being asked to consider energy efficiency, renewable energy and greenhouse gas reductions in their day-to-day work. These courses in Community Energy Management provide the background needed to respond to these new demands, while creating a cross-Canada cohort for networking and consultation.
“Community energy management is a new discipline spanning the roles of community planning, operations, engineering, transportation, finance, and political decision-making,” said CEA Executive Director, Dale Littlejohn. “Partnering with a respected institution like BCIT will help us meet our goal of building capacity for as many professionals as possible across Canada.”
“These courses provide a logical complement to our existing Sustainable Energy Management Advanced Certificate program,” said Jennie Moore, Associate Dean, Building Design and Construction Technology. “We plan to work further with CEA in 2017 to integrate this course content into our programs and perhaps evolve it into an advanced certificate program.”
CEA and BCIT are proud to be providing flexible, online education to working professionals. Courses include “Community-Based Renewable Energy” and “Reducing Emissions from New & Existing Buildings.” Registration is now open for the introductory prerequisite course, “Introduction to Community Energy & Emissions Planning,” which begins on February 3, 2016.
