Community Energy Association Launches
Big Moves Community of Practice
Through its work with communities, CEA has identified a few Big Moves that can really help reduce local greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change,
- Electrify passenger transportation
- Shift to active transportation and public transit
- Build new buildings that are zero-emission
- Retrofit existing buildings
- Divert organic waste away from the landfill
- Capture value from waste
For more resources also check out: The Climate Leaders Playbook.
Local governments are often capacity-constrained and have limited resources to implement these actions and so CEA is developing the Big Moves Community of Practice to provide support to select local governments in becoming implementation-ready.
Through the Big Moves Community of Practice, CEA will coordinate and support a cohort of local governments, each of whom is committed to developing an implementation plan for one of the Big Moves. Over four months (Sep-Dec 2022) these local governments will receive dedicated coaching support from CEA and will participate in workshops with their peers to become implementation-ready. At the conclusion of the Big Moves Community of Practice, participating local governments will share their final implementation plans, materials developed, and lessons learned with the cohort as well as more broadly with communities across BC to accelerate implementation and advance our collective action on climate change.
What communities will get from participating in the Big Moves Community of Practice:
- Assistance with updating emissions inventories and modeling of impacts of the selected Big Move
- Personalized coaching from a CEA subject matter expert
- Participation in a series of four facilitated workshops, two with the larger CoP members, and two with internal stakeholders
- Development of a detailed implementation plan
- Opportunities to share and showcase the work developed with peer networks
There is no cost to participate in the Big Moves Community of Practice, thanks to support from BCHydro.
