Instructors James Bourget and Geoff Kirkpatrick will take us through building envelope considerations and best practices in their virtual lab, using roof to wall, window, and wall penetration mock-ups designed to demonstrate real-world scenarios and solutions.

James Bourget, ABET, RRO, CPHT | Principle, Construction Specialist
James Bourget began his career in the construction industry in 1975. Over the years, he has established a multifaceted skill set and familiarity with various trades’ practices, including masonry, carpentry, concrete placing and finishing, architectural sheet metal, painting, as well as various stucco systems. In 2003 he joined RDH Building Science and since has been specializing in condition assessments, project design, detail development, and field review on Existing Buildings projects.
As an approved roof inspector with the Roofing Contractors Association of British Columbia, James has developed expertise in the investigation, design, and field review of complex and specialty roof renewal and replacement projects. He is also a Certified Passive House Tradesperson.
James has extensive experience mentoring and training members of the building industry. He currently shares his knowledge of the building enclosure as a hands-on instructor at the British Columbia Institute of Technology for both Passive House and building science related courses. As part of an initiative to support the implementation of a province-wide energy step code policy, James also provides hands-on airtightness training to builders and contractors. He has worked with reputable manufacturers to film installation demonstration videos of their products such as membranes, barriers, and cladding attachments.
Geoff Kirkpatrick, Instructor / Registered Energy Advisor, BCIT Zero Energy/Emissions Buildings Learning Centre
Geoff Kirkpatrick is passionate about providing solutions for high-performance envelopes. With over 30 years of experience in residential and commercial construction, he educates and consults on building enclosure assemblies, specializing in airtight assemblies and enclosure details.
Geoff is a part-time studies instructor at BCIT’s Zero Energy/Emissions Buildings Learning Centre and is Registered Energy Advisor actively providing Evaluations in the Kootenay Region.
