About the Presenter

JAMES BOURGET — ABET, RRO, CPHT | Principal, Construction Specialist

James brings over 40 years of extensive industry experience, with a distinguished career spanning two decades in both the construction sector and as a building enclosure consultant. His expertise encompasses a wide range of specialties, including condition assessments, design and detail development, and field review, particularly on Existing Buildings projects.

As an accredited roof inspector with the Roofing Contractors Association of British Columbia, James honed his skills in investigating, designing, and overseeing complex and specialty roof renewal and replacement projects. His skill set extends across various trades, including building envelope, carpentry, masonry, concrete placing and finishing, painting, and plastering.

James is deeply committed to advancing industry standards and knowledge. He actively contributes to initiatives supporting the implementation of the BC Step Code, providing hands-on airtightness training to builders and contractors. Moreover, he shares his wealth of expertise as an instructor at the High-Performance Building Lab at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, where he has earned recognition for his exceptional dedication and teaching excellence.

In acknowledgment of his outstanding contributions, James has been honored with the prestigious BCIT Teaching Excellence Award in 2021 and the Vancouver Regional Construction Association Excellence for Educational Leadership award in 2022.

Currently, James is engaged with the Canadian Home Builders Association of British Columbia and the Community Energy Association, spearheading hands-on training programs focused on high-performance building enclosure assemblies across British Columbia. These training sessions cover topics such as building science fundamentals, constructability considerations, innovative detailing concepts that enhance primary building enclosure controls (air, water, and thermal), and building enclosure fire resiliency.
