The Kootenay Clean Energy Transition (KCET) pilot is a multi-year project that will build awareness and workforce capacity for a low carbon and clean energy transition in the Kootenays.
Visit our website to find out more!
Building from the successful Kootenay Energy Diets and Accelerate Kootenays the goals of this initiative are to:
- Reduce GHG emissions by targeting the two highest emitting sectors - the built environment (heating & cooling of buildings) and transportation
- Address key barriers to low carbon technology adoption, including lack of knowledge, increased cost and local access to equipment and installers
- Support the low carbon and clean energy industries through workforce training

Building Local Capacity for a Low Carbon Future
To help communities keep up with the changes we will be:
- Offering ongoing training opportunities on clean energy and building industry best practices
- Hosting community workshops that highlight low carbon technologies and retrofit opportunities
- Working with industry alliances, employment agencies and other stakeholders to address local needs and inspire regional collaborations
If you have any questions or suggestions on training sessions, please reach out to kcet@communityenergy.bc.ca or call (250) 469-6783 ext. 717
Columbia Valley Heat Pump Pilot
Using a ground-up, trades-focused capacity building paired with homeowner awareness and intentional selection of equipment, our goal through the pilot was to increase heat pump uptake in the Columbia Valley.
Through the pilot, we helped over 30 homeowners to:
- Access a quality Home Energy Evaluation and maximize energy rebates available
- Understand their eligibility for the multiple levels of rebate programs available
- Find a qualified contractor to help them shift from inefficient oil, propane, or electric baseboard heating to an air source heat pump

Electric Vehicles
The electrification of passenger and light-duty vehicles offers communities an excellent opportunity to reduce GHG emissions from local transportation. In 2018, the Accelerate Kootenays network was completed with 40 Level 2 and 13 DCFCs installed across the Kootenays with local government support. Since then EV ownership by Kootenay residents, and visits to the region by EV tourists, has grown.
To ensure convenient charging options for residents and tourists alike, we launched Accelerate Kootenays 2.0. Eligible recipients can receive up to $5000 per Level 2 charger installed to help fill in gaps in our region, improve connectivity and further energize travel to and within the Kootenays.
Webinar recording (Electricians) - Considerations on designing and installing EV charging solutions as the demand and funding available grows across the Kootenay and Boundary regions.
Webinar recording (Site hosts) - Learn about the opportunities, site host criteria and funding available for electric vehicles charging infrastructure in the Kootenay and Boundary regions.
