About medium- and heavy-duty zero emissions vehicles (MHD ZEVs)
Medium- and heavy-duty vehicles include larger trucks, delivery vans, and buses—vehicles that are bigger and heavier than regular passenger cars and trucks—as well as speciality-use vehicles like garbage trucks, ice resurfacers, and tractors. A report by Clean Energy Canada and CALSTART found there are “more than 150 zero-emission van, bus and truck models being offered for sale in Canada by 34 different OEMs.”
Announcing Fleet Forward showcase events across BC
August 5, 2025
The Community Energy Association (CEA) has announced a series of free in-person events specifically focused on zero-emission large and specialty use vehicles. The four “Fleet Forward” events are designed to showcase vehicles that are already operating in BC and help fleet operators explore how to plan and integrate them into their own operations.
The Fleet Forward events will be an unbiased forum for discussion, connection, and learning about medium and heavy-duty zero emission vehicles (ZEVs). With vehicles on display, time to connect with and learn from peers, and opportunities to hear from experts and early adopters, Fleet Forward attendees will be able to evaluate which technology can work in their specific context, how to plan and prepare for charging/refuelling, and which rebates are available to assist with capital costs.

The content and agenda for each event is informed by engagement done by CEA with local government staff and public and private fleet operators from across BC. Through workshops and interviews, CEA’s team found that even where there is an understanding of how ZEVs can save money and lower emissions, fleet managers need more detailed information and resources. Danielle Wiess, CEA’s Director of Transport Initiatives, noted that fleet decision-makers are finding that replacing large or specialty-use vehicles can be more complex than replacing passenger vehicles like trucks or SUVs with electric models: “This is new territory for a lot of fleet managers and owners and it’s hard to find the information they need or talk to the right people.”
The Fleet Forward events aim to make this process easier for BC fleet owners. Wiess added, “we are finding that many people are considering transitioning large fleet vehicles to zero-emission versions, but have not had the opportunity to see them in person, meet with experts, or talk to peers who are navigating similar challenges. [The Fleet Forward events] are a neutral place for learning and knowledge exchange to bridge the gap between intention and implementation.”
All events are made possible with funding and support from Natural Resources Canada, the Province of British Columbia, and BC Hydro.
