In order to advance emissions reductions goals, communities across Canada must retrofit their aging and inefficient municipal buildings. Deep energy retrofits are complex, and retrofitting these diverse buildings can be lengthy and costly processes. One way to support municipal staff as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of upgrading aging, inefficient civic facilities and buildings is to connect them with peers who are on a similar journey.
CEA facilitates peer networks in BC across a range of topics and regions; they are proving to be one of the best ways to support and enable staff who are responsible for implementing climate action in their community. The Community Buildings Retrofit Capacity Development Network is part of the Green Municipal Fund's Community Buildings Retrofit initiative. The network is delivered through a collaboration between the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and CEA.
The network is a space for municipal staff across Canada to learn from experts, connect with peers, and share knowledge related to community buildings* retrofits.
*For the purposes of this project, a community building is an enclosed public place or an enclosed workplace that is:
- owned by a municipal government or not-for-profit;
- primarily used for the purposes of providing athletic, recreational, culture and community programs or services to the local community; and
- widely accessible to everyone offering services designed to enhance the health and well-being, skills development, and economic development of individuals.
